New Gen-Set Family For MTU Onsite Energy

Posted on November 3, 2009

MTU Onsite Energy will introduce a new family of gen-sets to cover a power range from 270 to 3250 kW, based on MTU Series 1600, Series 2000 and Series 4000 diesel engines. The company explained that the new product family consists of engine, generator, cooling plant, plant control system and frame.

Christof von Branconi, Tognum executive board member responsible for the business unit Onsite Energy & Components said, “Tognum intends to use the strategic growth of its gen-set business to significantly expand its potential in the end-user sector in the medium term. In addition to increasing added value in production, Tognum will also be enhancing its service business with end users.”

The company indicates that its future diesel-based sales portfolio will range from individual diesel engines for power generation through to modularized gen-sets for special-purpose applications, such as project systems involving emergency gen-sets for nuclear power plants. A wide range of supplementary units such as soundproofing hoods, radiators and electric circuit breakers are also available to complement the basic sub-assemblies so that the customer can have his own individual gen-set.

Typical applications for these gen-sets include: data centers, hospitals, hotels, offices and airports where reliable emergency standby power is essential, as well as base and peak load power generation applications. The major markets are located in Latin America and Africa as well as in the Middle and Far East. MTU Onsite Energy explained that the gen-sets are currently produced in Mankato, Minnesota, U.S.A. and future production is also scheduled for Magdeburg, Germany, and Suzhou, China.
