Rolls-Royce Turbines for Spanish Cogen Plants
Rolls-Royce K-gas engines have been selected to power three major electricity cogeneration projects in Barcelona and Bilbao, Spain. Moyresa, an operator in the oilseed crushing and refining industry, has opted for nine of the 18-cylinder engines, which run on natural gas, to provide steam and hot water for the three sites, exploiting each plant’s output of more than 7 MW of thermal energy while exporting about 5 MW, half of their electrical output, to the Spanish national grid during high demand. Three KVGS-18G4 units will go in the Moyresa cogneration plant in Barcelona and the other six, three at each site, will power the company’s Soja and Girasol facilities in Bilbao – all entering service between the end of 2004 and summer 2005.
