Wärtsilä Signs Agreement To Manufacture Controllable Pitch Propellers
Wärtsilä has signed an agreement with Zhenjiang CME Ltd., a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corp. (CSSC), to manufacture controllable pitch propellers at the two companies’ joint venture unit, Wärtsilä CME Zhenjiang Propeller Co. Ltd., in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu province, China. The new factory’s inauguration, as well as the first deliveries, is scheduled for the second quarter of 2011.
Wärtsilä CME Zhenjiang Propeller Co. will invest US$16.5 million (€12 million) in the facility that will manufacture the propellers. The investment includes the construction of the 8000 m² factory at the same location as the existing fixed pitch propellers factory.
The new factory will be able to produce all sizes of controllable pitch propellers with a specialized in-house bronze casting supply from the existing foundry. Wärtsilä currently offers controllable pitch propellers with an output between 1.5 to 60 MW.
