Wärtsilä Power for New Freighters
Wärtsilä Corporation has received orders from the Polish shipbuilder Stocznia Szczecinska Nowa to supply ship power plants for four new 12,800 tdw multi-purpose Sto-Ro cargo vessels contracted by the Dutch owner Spliethoff's Bevrachtingskantoor BV. For each vessel, Wärtsilä will deliver two Wärtsilä 12V46 main engines, two Lips controllable-pitch propellers including Unnet aft seal protection system, two Lips Efficiency Rudders and two Wärtsilä 8L20 diesel generating sets. The Wärtsilä 12V46 main engines have a combined output of 25 200 kW, and the generator sets a combined electrical output of 2720 kW. The power plant will give the vessels a service speed of 22 knots.
The vessels will be delivered in 2006 and will enter Transfennica services which operates Ro-Ro services between Finland and Estonia, Sweden, Germany, Belgium and the UK. They will each have an overall length of about 205 m, they will have a roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) capacity of 2800 lane-metres and a container capacity of 660 TEU. They will also have provision for IMO Classes 1 to 8 dangerous cargoes. The vessels will be built to Finnish Ice Class 1A Super.
