First Firing of GE Frame 9FB Gas Turbine

Posted on September 16, 2005

The first project in the world to feature GE Energy's Frame 9FB gas turbine technology, Group III of the Arcos de la Frontera combined-cycle plant in the province of Cádiz, Spain, has entered its testing phase. First firing of the first gas turbine was held recently, marking the first time a 9FB machine has been fired for a commercial project. This milestone is the beginning of a test period that will lead up to commercial operation of Group III by the end of the year.

GE Energy supplied a 209FB combined-cycle system, consisting of two Frame 9FB gas turbines, one GE D11 steam turbine, three 330H generators and two heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs) for the Group III project. In addition to the combined-cycle system, GE is also providing technical services including start-up and extensive characterization testing for the Group III project. The 800 MW Group III is owned by Spanish energy producer Iberdrola Generacion S.A.
