Posted on September 24, 2010

GE Transportation signed a contract with Brazilian rail operator MRS Logistica S.A. (MRS) for the supply of 115 AC44i locomotives with the option of a further 100.

GE’s Grove City, Pennsylvania, U.S.A., factory will supply the components, which include a 12-cylinder FDL diesel engine, while GE Transportation’s Contagem, Brazil plant will build the locomotives.

The new locomotives, which will be delivered between 2011 and 2015, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and operating costs up to 15%, according to GE.
