Posted on September 9, 2010

Johnson Matthey opened its new Emission Control Technologies Ltd. selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst manufacturing facility in Song Jiang Industrial Park in Shanghai, China. The company already has five catalyst manufacturing plants around the world.

The new plant has about 20 000 m² of manufacturing, laboratory and office space and has the capacity to produce 10 000 m³ per year of SCR catalyst to control NOx emissions from high dust, coal-fired power plants throughout China. The plant, which will employ 100 people, is 2 km from Emission Control Technologies’ automobile catalyst manufacturing plant, also located in Song Jiang Industrial Park.

Johnson Matthey has supplied more than 120 000 m³ of this type of catalyst to global power plants over the last 25 years. The company has also been a major supplier of SCR catalyst for NOx control in China, with more than 15 000 MW of installed capacity at 19 power plants across the country and providing more than 12 000 m³ of SCR catalyst.
