MTU Biogas Engine
Increased efficiency in higher temperatures, humidity
MTU Onsite Energy has announced its advanced Series 4000 biogas engine, with an electrical efficiency rating that has increased from the previous maximum of 42.5% to 43.3%.
The company said an additional variant is also available that facilitates operation at a higher cooled mixture temperature of 53oC with only slightly reduced efficiency. This variant is primarily intended for use in countries or applications with higher outside temperatures and higher air humidity, MTU said.
Gen-set systems powered by Series 4000 biogas engines are available in 8, 12, 16 and 20-cylinder configurations with an electrical power output range from 776 to 1948 kW.
The first deliveries of systems with the enhanced-efficiency biogas engines are scheduled for March 2014. The units are earmarked for operation in agricultural applications, sewage treatment facilities and at landfill sites, MTU said.
