GE Logs First Marine Order in Turkey

GE Marine announced that it will supply 12, V228, medium-speed diesel engines to Global Denizcilik Hizmetleri Ltd ªti, Istanbul, Turkey. The engines will be used for six tugboats being built by Uzmar Shipbuilding Industry and Trade Inc., Istanbul. Global Denizcilik Hizmetleri Ltd ªti is GE’s engine distributor in Turkey.

Each of the six tugboats will use two V228 engines: four will employ 12 cylinder diesels, each rated 2400 kW at 1050 r/min; and two vessels will use 16 cylinder engines, each rated 2800 kW at 1000 r/minpm.

The V228 diesel engines will be manufactured at GE’s Grove City, Pennsylvania, U.S.A. facility, and will be delivered to Uzmar Shipbuilding Industry and Trade Inc. beginning in July 2009. The tugboats are expected to begin operating six months after the delivery of the engines.
