Rolls-Royce Wins New Thailand Power Contract

Rolls-Royce recently announced that gas compression and power generation units for Thailand’s third gas pipeline master plan, covering a total of 11 onshore and offshore projects, will be delivered in the first quarter of 2009. Three units, two for gas compression and one for electrical power generation, were ordered last year by Samsung Engineering Company Limited (SECL) for PTT Public Company Limited’s (PTT) Gas Separation Plant 6 project. They are designed to increase the supply of natural gas to the eastern region of the country.

The industrial RB211-G62 DLE gas compression and RB211-GT62 DLE power generation gas turbine packages will join 15 Rolls-Royce machines – four RB211-G62, seven Avon units and four 501-KC units at Map Ta Phut, Rayong. This site, in the eastern seaboard province of Rayong, first started operation in 1984 using a Rolls-Royce Avon gas compression unit. Today, the site hosts four gas separation plants.
