Peter Brotherhood Secures another Order in Pakistan
Peter Brotherhood Ltd has secured another order to supply a condensing steam turbo-generator set to Pakistan. The 15 MW steam turbo-generator set will be installed in a diesel combined-cycle power plant in Lahore, Pakistan, in early 2009 and the plant will become fully operational in September 2009. The power plant will have a total gross electrical output of over 200 MW and is owned by Nishat Power Ltd, an independent power producer which will supply electricity to the national grid in Pakistan.
The turbo-generator set will include a turbine, gearbox and AC generator all mounted on a common bedplate which incorporates the oil system. A PLC-based control and monitoring system and a water cooled condenser package will also be supplied by Peter Brotherhood Ltd. The turbo-generator set will be driven by steam generated from the waste heat contained in the exhaust gases emitted from eleven four-stroke diesel generating sets.
"The specification for this new power plant included a minimum overall cycle efficiency requirement of 53 percent,” said Peter Brotherhood's Regional Sales Manager, Colin Lake. This can only be achieved by the inclusion of a steam turbine generating set running in a combined cycle process with diesel generator sets.
“We are seeing more and more projects like this in Pakistan and this seems set to continue. The Pakistan government is enforcing higher cycle efficiency requirements and combined cycle power plants are an integral part of the way forward."
