GE Technology A First For District Heating Project In Spain

The first GE Jenbacher gas engine for district heating in Spain is now operating at UR BEROA S COOP, which provides district heating for about 600 houses in the residential area of San Sebastian, Spain. The engine uses natural gas for heating, instead of diesel oil, which will help reduce CO2 by about 1200 tons a year, according to GE.

The 1 MW combined heat and power system will be used to generate hot water for seven sub-centrals, each one with an exchanger for heat and another for sanitary hot water. From there, it is distributed to the houses. The electricity will be sold to the grid. The system is remotely managed and tailored to the temperature needs of each area.

UR BEROA S COOP is a cooperative society formed in 1985 by the community of Bidebieta II in San Sebastian. It is made up of 584 associates who manage the community.
