MariNOx Emissions Monitoring Systems Used In Container Ships

Four 45 200 dwt heavy lift ro-ro container ships ordered by Italian operator Ignazio Messina from Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering in South Korea are specified with Martek Marine’s MariNOx emissions monitoring systems.

MariNOx are designed to comply with Marpol Annex VI, the NOx Technical Code and MEPC 103 (49). The technology continuously monitors the exhaust gases from main engines, auxiliary engines and boilers, as well as the engine and ambient parameters to calculate NOx emissions.

All the sensor readings from the monitoring systems will be logged in a centralized data management system and stored onboard. The monitoring systems measure carbon monoxide, oxygen, hydrocarbons and particulate matter.

The systems also improve engine performance, which creates a fuel savings up to 4%, according to Martek Marine.
