Mitsubishi Heavy Industries To Reorganize Its Shipbuilding Operations

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. (MHI) will reorganize its production structure for its shipbuilding and ocean development business, which is in the company’s three Japan-based shipyards in Nagasaki, Shimonoseki and Kobe.

Under the reorganization, commercial vessel construction would be handled at the Nagasaki and Shimonoseki shipyards, leaving the Kobe shipyard to handle mainly submarine construction. The new structure should be implemented in mid-2012.

With the reorganization, MHI will accelerate its development of new business areas, such as floating production, storage and offloading units for liquefied natural gas, as well as vessels for offshore wind-power generation system installations.
