Howden, University Team Up On Compression Technology

11 September 2020

Howden Compressors and City, University of London’s Centre for Compressor Technology will collaborate on a five-year project aimed at developing novel energy efficient compression technologies.

The project – Smart Efficient Compression, Reliability and Energy Targets (SECRET) – is a continuation of the pair’s existing partnership on screw compressors, which targeted reducing leaks in rotating machinery and improving the efficiency of oil-free screw compressors. This new collaborative effort will look at the effect of clearances and heat transfer dynamics within the compressor to gauge losses and gains in efficiency.

The project also contributes to advances in the development of Industry 4.0. The team seeks to transform traditional manufacturing and industrial practices with smart technology. The pair will also focus on the short-, medium- and long-term development of Howden’s oil-free screw compressor range.
