New MAN Diesels In Luxury Yacht

First of new V12-1900 engines in Riviera’s 77 Enclosed Flybridge; 35 knots plus chrome-plated cylinder head covers

MAN Engines announced that the first two units of its most powerful high-speed diesel engine have been installed and tested in the flagship vessel built by Australian luxury yacht and sport fishing boat manufacturer Riviera.

Riviera_77_FB_V12-1900_01878x659Riviera has equipped its Riviera 77 Enclosed Flybridge with the new 12-cylinder V12-1900 engines which debuted at the Cannes Yachting Festival in 2015. Launched and tested earlier this year, the first MAN-powered vessel is in transit to the Middle East.

At a length of nearly 25 m, the yacht will carry a total engine power of 2794 kW (3800 hp) which will provide a top speed of 35 knots, Riviera said. With a displacement of 24.2 L, the V12-1900 engine has increased its performance to 1397 kW (1900 hp), while weighing in at 2365 kg (dry). The maximum torque of 6220 Nm at1200 to 2100 rpm provides a sufficient power reserve for quick acceleration and overall performance, MAN said.

“The new owner is very eager about the improved performance of the MAN engines which increases the power by 100 hp (75 kW) each,” said Doug Nelson, Motoryacht Division Manager of Riviera Australia Pty Ltd. “This means an even better acceleration and higher top speed compared to the original top-of-the-range engine.”

Designed to be compact, the V12-1900 engine is 2139 mm long, 1153 mm wide and 1265 mm high. The twin engine installation onboard of the Riviera 77 Enclosed Flybridge frees up more space under the deck, an advantage that is above all apparent in the master cabin, MAN said.
