A First For Italy

Capstone Turbine Corp. said it has received an order for a C600 Signature Series microturbine to provide renewable power for a wastewater treatment plant in Tuscany, Italy.
IBT Group, Capstone’s Italian distributor, secured the order, which is expected to be commissioned in early 2018. Capstone microturbines were selected because of their eligibility to receive incentive funding made available for Italian municipalities, as well as their ability to reliably reduce energy costs while producing ultra-low emissions.
“This is the first installation of Capstone’s new, smaller footprint, C600 Signature Series microturbine in Italy,” said Ilario Vigani, IBT Group’s chief executive officer. “Biogas production through the organic fraction of municipal solid waste is an increasing market in Italy, driven by the great work municipalities are doing in terms of differentiated waste collection. Capstone’s clean technology is the perfect solution for sustainable onsite power production.”
The C600 Signature Series microturbine fueled by digester gas will be installed in grid connect mode, which enables the customer to operate with the utility grid in a load sharing capacity. The wastewater treatment plant will produce a considerable amount of biogas on a consistent basis by using a digester to process the wet organic fraction coming from the nearby city of Viareggio. The microturbine energy system will take this renewable fuel and provide prime power to the plant, ensuring complete management of the differentiated waste cycle.
“It’s exciting to penetrate another new geography with our flagship Signature Series product and particularly encouraging to see the recent upturn in project opportunities start to translate into new orders from Europe,” said Darren Jamison, Capstone’s president and chief executive officer.
