MAN Engines announced its V12X engine for yacht applications has been recognized with the Red Dot Award: Product Design, an award that recognizes the “best products of the year.” The 12-cylinder vee-configuration engine rated 2,200 hp at 2,300 rpm and 30 L displacement was introduced at the Cannes Yachting Festival in August 2022.

According to MAN Engines, the most distinctive design feature of the MAN V12X is the engine cover’s X-design, which was based on a concept by design partner Hyve. The design shapes the appearance of the engine from the side and from above and enables clear views of the engine’s technology on closer inspection. The engine was also developed with a larger displacement to offer an increase in performance for existing applications, as well as to offer customers a propulsion system for larger yachts and super yachts.

The Red Dot award is an internationally respected seal of outstanding design quality, MAN engines noted, An international jury selected the MAN V12X for recognition from among the thousands of entries in the international design competition for product design, communication design and design concepts. In 2023, around 20,000 submitted products from 60 countries were evaluated in 51 competition categories by a team of 43 jurors.

“We would like to express our sincere thanks and are very pleased about the award,” said Bernd Huneke, head of Design Marine MAN Engines. “After all, the care we put into the structural design and interpretation of the performance of our engines is also reflected in the design. We have consistently continued the tradition of making fascinating technology look fascinating with the MAN V12X.”
