Parker Hannifin nets contract for filtration systems

Parker Hannifin announced it secured a contract to supply gas turbine filtration systems for use aboard a floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel planned for offshore Brazil. The value of the contract was not disclosed.

Through its Gas Turbine Filtration division, Parker Hannifin has long and successful experience in providing air intake filtration packages for use on FPSOs. Its close relationship with major gas turbine OEMs often makes it a preferred supplier for new projects, the company said.

One of its most recent successes includes a project to provide its Static Offshore E12 air-inlet high velocity, modular gas turbine filtration units for a new FPSO being commissioned by a major Brazilian oil and gas company.

Gas turbines used on FPSOs require protection from the elements and contaminants within the environment they are installed. The challenge for gas turbine filtration manufacturers is to provide the right balance of protection, reliability, cost, and lifecycle maintenance within a compact, light, and robust package suitable for use onboard these vessels.

“Our support for such projects goes beyond the provision of reliable, compact, robust solutions that meet the filtration and protection needs for valuable GTs used onboard the FPSOs,” said Gerald Woodward, division sales & marketing manager, gas turbine filtration at Parker Hannifin. “We have also invested in a strong supply chain in both Brazil and Europe, which meets localization demands and supports the operator and EPC in meeting their project goals.”

Parker’s Static Offshore E12 air-inlet systems are modular, compact, and easily serviced. High-efficiency, E-12 grade solutions, they are specifically designed for offshore use with the smaller, high velocity efficiency turbines used on FPSOs, the company said.

“We have developed standard modules for our offshore air intake packages to both reduce cost and ensure filter performance. Our long history in designing offshore filter systems and deep understanding of the elements they face, mean we offer high performance solutions that protect the GTs, while optimizing maintenance requirements, and reducing overall cost of ownership,” he said.

The new contract from the EPC serving the oil operator is the latest in a series of awards for FPSOs operating offshore Brazil to exploit oil and gas resources there. It is the second of a planned four FPSOs and intake units are planned for delivery in CY22. Parker was also successful in securing the order for the first FPSO, with units scheduled for delivery in April 2022.

“Over time, we have provided around 150 modular GT filtration units with Static Offshore E12 air-inlet high velocity worldwide,” Woodward said. “We continue to develop and enhance our filtration units to support the increasing efficiency of modern gas turbines, as well as investing to ensure support systems and supply chains are robust for Brazilian operators.”
