A Familiar Technology
Independent power producer PT Cikarang Listrindo has selected GE for a Frame 9E gas turbine and associated generator to add 114 MW of power for its power station located about 45 km from Jakarta, Indonesia.
The company is using natural gas in hopes to reduce the country’s CO2 emissions by 26% by 2020. According to GE, a Frame 9E gas turbine using natural gas can reduce NOx emissions by 35% and CO2 emissions by 30%, compared with the same unit operating on liquid fuel (distillate).
The gas turbine will join eight other GE gas turbines purchased by PT Cikarang Listrindo for previous projects, comprising six Frame 6B units and two 9Es, GE said. PT Cikarang Listrindo helps to meet the power needs of Indonesia’s industrial sector by supplying nearly 700 MW of electricity to the national grid and several companies in five industrial estates.
The new unit for Cikarang is expected to begin commercial operation in March 2012.
