Caterpillar Gen-Sets Coming To South China Sea

Posted on April 8, 2011

Caterpillar Global Petroleum has been chosen to provide CNOOC Ltd. with 8 x 16 M 32 C crude oil engine generator sets. These gen-sets will be installed on two offshore production platforms in the Panyu 4-2/5-1 oilfield, located in the South China Sea.

The 16 M 32 C is a medium-speed, long-stroke engine incorporating flexible camshaft technology (FCT), high efficiency turbochargers and a bore of 320 mm, according to Caterpillar. Each long-stroke 16 M 32 C gen-set will provide 7680 kW at 750 r/min of rated power. The long-stroke cylinder design also helps customers meet all IMO 2 emissions regulations without needing external aftertreatment, said Scott Young, CM product manager.

The two offshore production platforms will each have four gen-sets with auxiliary equipment, which will include fuel supply modules, cooling modules, separator skids, lube oil skids and control panels. The platforms will be constructed at the CONHW, Zhanjiang, China shipyard, with the gen-sets set for delivery this month.
