ClassNK Adds Eight Ships To Its Register
Ships received from German companies
ClassNK, a classification society, received eight vessels on its register from German companies RHL Reederei Hamburger Lloyd GmbH & Co. KG, BF Shipmanagement GmbH & Co. KG and Johann M. K. Blumenthal GmbH & Co. KG.
The vessels are comprised of five container carriers, including one Panamax-sized vessel, and three Capesize bulk carriers.
The official transfer marked the success of the decision last November to establish a new section of the society’s Survey Department in Hamburg, Germany, with senior staff from Tokyo, Japan, in order to provide better service to German ship owners.
This marks the first time the ClassNK placed head office management staff and functions outside of Japan, the society said.
Since the establishment of the new department in Hamburg, German owners have transferred 20 vessels totaling about 907 185 tonnes to ClassNK.
