GE Wins More Engine Supply Contracts
GE Transportation will supply four medium-speed diesel engines for two commercial marine projects in the United States, the company reported today at the International WorkBoat Show. Under the first contract, GE will provide Ingram Barge Company Nashville, Tennessee, U.S.A. with two V250 engines, each rated at 2726 kW at 900 r/min. The 12-cylinder engines will be used in a repowering project aboard the towboat M/V Eastern Star by Dravo Corporation, Neville Island, Pennsylvania, U.S.A. This marks the first application of GE diesels for an inland marine towboat.
For the second contract, GE has delivered two eight-cylinder V228 diesels to Crescent Towing New Orleans, Louisiana, U.S.A. The engines will repower Crescent Towing’s tugboat Mississippi. Originally built for the Penn Central Railroad, the tug was used to barge rail cars in New York harbor. This is the third tug of this type GE has repowered for Crescent Towing. Once the repowered Mississippi returns to service rotation, Crescent Towing will operate GE diesel engines aboard 11 of its tugboats.
