Alstom Signs Contract For Steam Power Plant In Slovenia

Posted on December 14, 2009

Alstom has been awarded a supply contract for the construction of a 600 MW coal-fired steam power plant in northeast Slovenia. Alstom will provide the power island comprising the steam turbine generator set, the water-steam cycle, the boiler and the ALSPA distributed control system.

The new plant, expected to be operational by the end of 2014, will double the customer's generation portfolio and generate approximately one-third of Slovenia's power production which will allow the country to reduce its dependency on energy imports.

The project will have important local impact by enabling full production of a nearby coal mine and securing employment in the region, especially at the power station, the coal mine and in ancillary industries.

Alstom Power has previously installed two 114 MW gas turbines in Slovenia as well as several steam turbines both for electricity production and district heating and is also executing service contracts in this country.
