Siemens Provides Support for China Mass Transit System

Posted on December 14, 2009

Together with China Railway Signal & Communication Corp (CRSC), Siemens Mobility Division will equip the conventional metro line of Chongqing with its updated signaling and control system. This system will make it possible to run trains at shorter headways with the capability to adapt to changing passenger volumes. The line will enter service in 2011.

With a population of more than 30 million, Chongqing has experienced rapid growth in the past years leading to the need for infrastructure modernization, especially in the field of transportation.

The line will be equipped with Trainguard MT, the modular automatic train control system from Siemens and a radio system for the continuous exchange of data. The train control system also includes an intermittent fallback level based on ETCS components such as balises and lineside electronic control units (LEUs). This system provided by Siemens offers an operationally optimized solution that will increase the availability of the overall system while providing safety and flexbility for the metroo operator.

The scope of delivery also includes the operation control center, the lineside facilities comprising the interlockings, the automatic train control and radio systems and the on-board components. Trainguard MT is currently in use on many Chinese metro lines including Beijing Lines 10 and 8 and Guangzhou Metro Lines 4 and 5 as well as Nanjing LIne 2.
