Siemens Sees Big Order From Saudi Arabia

Posted on February 21, 2011

Siemens received a large order from Saudi Arabia to supply components for a combined cycle power plant with an associated seawater desalination facility. The order comes from a consortium comprising Al Arrab Contracting Co., Saudi Arabia and the Chinese SepcoIII Electric Power Construction Corp.

For the power plant, Siemens will supply 12 SGT6-5000F gas turbines, 10 heat recovery steam generators, five SST6-4000 steam turbines and the associated auxiliary and ancillary systems. The order comes in at more than US$1 billion, one of the largest orders Siemens has received from the Middle East, said the company.

The 2400 MW plant will be built to supply power to an aluminum smelting plant and approximately 225 million imperial gallons per day of drinking water. The power plant is scheduled to go online in early 2014.
