Pratt & Whitney Turbines for Peaking Application

Posted on August 17, 2004

The Electricity Supply Board (ESB) in the Republic of Ireland has agreed to purchase two additional Pratt & Whitney Power Systems FT8 SWIFTPAC 50 units. ESB Power Generation will site the units at its power generation facility in the town of Rhode. The units, each providing 50 MW of quick response peaking capacity, are scheduled to enter commercial service this year. This order is a follow up to an order placed last year for two SWIFTPAC units that entered commercial operation at ESB’s power generation facilities in the counties of Cork and Mayo last December, three weeks ahead of schedule. The FT8 series is designed and manufactured by Pratt & Whitney Power Systems and is a derivative of Pratt’s JT8D aircraft engine.
