Wärtsilä Signs Agreement To Service Oceanic Vega

Posted on August 25, 2010

Wärtsilä, a ship power products provider, has signed a long-term service agreement with Eidesvik Offshore, Norway, to provide maintenance services for the seismic vessel Oceanic Vega. The agreement is expected to reduce maintenance costs for the owner, while providing uninterrupted availability and high levels of reliability, according to the company.

The agreement lasts five years, with an option for an additional five years. There also is an option for a sister vessel, which will be delivered in July 2011.

Wärtsilä’s maintenance planning program includes the planning and scheduling of engine maintenance based on online monitoring from each engine. The data is collected and monitored daily, allowing the company to identify faults before failure occurs.

The Oceanic Vega features six Wärtsilä 26 engines, gears, adjustable thrusters and controls. It was built at the Ulstein Verft yard in Norway and delivered on July 2010.
