Incat Delivers Vehicle-passenger Ferry

Posted on June 27, 2005

Incat has announced that it recently delivered a 78 m Wave Piercing Catamaran to the Spanish operator Baleària, for use on a new year-round route from Barcelona to the Baleàric Island of Majorca. The Jaume 1 (Incat Hull 033) has a travel time from the Catalan port to Alcúdia of just three hours. The vessel is powered by four Caterpillar 3206 diesels each rated 4320 kW at 800 r/min driving four Lips LJ115-5 water jets. The vessel also includes four alternators powered by Caterpillar 3206 engines each rated 145 kW. The vessel can carry 630 passengers and 145 cars and has a deadweight of 250 tonnes.

The Jaume 1 was originally built in 1994 as Stena Sea Lynx II. Prior to engering service with Baleraria, the vessel completed a major refit and refurbshment program in drydock at Cadiz. The refit was completed by 24 Incat staff members, thus becoming one of the largest teams ever to work for the company on a single overseas project.
