Wärtsilä Takes On Midsize Market

Posted on March 2, 2011

Wärtsilä has introduced a new series of waterjet products. The new midsize series of stainless steel jets includes all sizes from 510 to 3250 mm, making Wärtsilä a supplier serving both midsize and the lower range of large Waterjet applications with a single product, the company said. The midsize series represents a package for a shaft power of up to 4500 kW, Wärtsilä said.

The new series, designed for the high speed ferry, high speed patrol craft, and customized yachting segments, is constructed out of abrasion resistant stainless steel to conserve the shape of the stator blades in order to retain high levels of fuel efficiency. The impeller and shaft are also constructed from stainless steel.

The new waterjets come in a plug-and-play installation module and has inlet duct shapes optimized for different hull forms, the company said. The hydraulic system has no oil retaining elements protruding outside of the vessel’s transom.
