Posted on May 10, 2011

Palmet Energi has selected GE for its aeroderivative gas turbine technology. The company, which already has a GE-powered plant in Kirklareli, Turkey, plans to build a second power plant in Aydin, Turkey.

GE’s scope of supply includes one LM6000-PC SPRINT aeroderivative gas turbine generator package and a GE Thermodyn steam turbine. The new mid-merit plant is owned by Ales Enerji, which is a company created and owned by Palmet Enerji.

The 60 MW plant will have a 51% combined-cycle efficiency and will lower NOx emissions by 74% through the use of demineralized water, GE said. Commercial operation is planned for the third quarter of 2012.

Turkey’s total population is 76.5 million and is expected to rise to 79.1 million by 2015. In 2010, power consumption rose to 209 million MWh and is expected to reach 222 million MWh this year. Between 2011 and 2020, Business Monitor International forecasts an increase in Turkish electricity generation of 52.3%.
