Paper Recycler Using GE Jenbacher Gas Engines

Posted on May 12, 2011

Sociedad Anónima Celulosa Aragonesa (SAICA), a large paper recycler in Spain, is using GE’s Jenbacher gas engine technology to turn biogas into energy at its cogeneration plant in Zaragoza, Spain.

SAICA uses recovered paper for the manufacturing of new paper, a process that has helped the company recycle 2.1 million tons per year within its five sites. SAICA’s cogeneration plant features three of GE’s Jenbacher J620 gas engines, which use biogas from the wastewater treatment to generate electricity. While standard biogas plants are typically 1 to 2 MW, the SAICA plant is more than 8 MW.
