ABB To Provide Power, Propulsion Systems For LNG Vessels

Posted on November 19, 2010

ABB, a power and automation technology developer, received an order worth US$58 million (€42.5 million) to provide power and propulsion systems for six new liquefied natural gas (LNG) transport vessels, which Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) will built at its shipyard in South Korea.

The order calls for ABB to supply complete electrical systems for the ships, including power generation and distribution systems, electric propulsion and propulsion control systems, ABB said. The order also includes engineering services.

The electric propulsion concept, along with the dual-fire engines, enable the ships to optimize their fuel selection, energy efficiency and fuel consumption with achieving low emission levels, said ABB.
