Posted on November 19, 2010

Ansaldo Energia, a Finmeccanica company, along with SNC-Lavalin, have signed contracts, valued at more than US$327.5 million (€240 million), with the Tunisian electricity and gas company.

The engineering, procurement and construction contract is for the design and construction of a 420 MW gas-fired combined cycle thermoelectric power plant in Sousse on the Bay of Hammamet in Africa. The contract also includes building a greenfield power plant, which will sit next to the existing one, the company said.

Ansaldo Energia will supply the components for the power block, with work slated to start before the end of the year and run for the next 30 months.

Under a long-term service agreement by the two groups, maintenance and support activities will be provided at the plant for 12 years.
