Shipbuilder Orders Four Propulsion Engines From MAN Diesel & Turbo

Posted on October 20, 2010

Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. Ltd. of Korea has ordered four common-rail 12V48/60CR Tier 2 propulsion engines from MAN Diesel & Turbo SE. The prime movers will power a new RoPax ferry for Tunisian ship owner Compagnie Tunisienne de Navigation (COTUNAV).

The engines have an output of 14 400 kW each. The 48/60CR injection system uses technology that allows operators to independently set injection timing, duration and pressure for each cylinder, which helps optimize fuel consumption and reduce emissions, the company said.

The ferry, which can hit a top speed of 27.5 knots, will be able to carry 3200 passengers and 1060 vehicles. Measuring 210 by 30 m, the ship will contain a shopping center, restaurants, a swimming pool and several entertainment facilities.

The engine’s delivery is expected in the first half of 2012.
