Nigeria Utility Turns to Siemens For Power Plant Construction Project

Posted on September 7, 2010

Siemens Energy has received a US$292.3 million (€230 million) order from Nigerian utility Niger Delta Power Holding Co. for the construction of the Geregu II gas turbine power plant in Ajaokuta, located about 200 km south of the capital Abuja in Nigeria. The gas-fired power plant is scheduled to start commercial operation in late 2012.

Geregu II is a follow-up project to the Geregu I power plant, which Siemens built in 2006. Siemens will supply three SGT5-2000E gas turbines, electrical equipment and an SPPA-T3000 instrumentation and control system for the 434 MW power plant, which will be built as a turnkey project, according to Siemens.

Siemens’ other recent activity in Nigeria came in March 2010, when the company received an order to build a 113 MW power plant about 100 km north of Lagos. Siemens’ supply consisted of three SGT-800 gas turbines for the plant, which is scheduled for operation in 2011.
