Saudi Aramco Selects Siemens Compressors

30 July 2020

Saudi Aramco selected Siemens Energy to provide centrifugal compressor systems for its Hawiyah Unayzah Gas Reservoir Storage (HUGRS) project. The plant includes a gas injection facility with a 1500 MMcfd (42.2 X 106 m3/d) capacity and a withdrawal facility that can process up to 2000 MMcfd (56.6 X 106 m3/d) of gas.

Siemens Energy will supply 20 compressor trains, with half going to the injection facility and the other to the withdrawal facility. Samsung Engineering, who received the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the project earlier, sent Siemens Energy the order.

The project, located 162 miles (260 km) east of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia’s capital, includes a plant that will take surplus pipeline gas in the winter months and inject it into an existing depleted field for storage. The gas can then be used in the warmer months when demand surges.
