By Jack Burke11 January 2019

Wärtsilä named Torsten Buessow as director of its Transas business, a provider of advanced technological solutions for the maritime industry, including fleet operations solutions, digital data and charts.

He will report to Joonas Makkonen, vice president of Voyage Solutions at Wärtsilä.

Torsten joins Wärtsilä from the classification society, DNV GL where he worked for more than a decade, first as a vice president of the company’s Maritime Software Business Unit, and then as a VP of Fleet Performance Management, its Maritime Digital Business Unit. Torsten earlier spent almost 10 years at Capgemini, a global management and IT consulting company, working mainly with logistics and transportation sector clients.

His expertise in maritime software, fleet operations, and post-merger integrations will be extremely valuable in delivering on Wärtsilä’s Smart Marine vision, and creating a truly modern, connected ecosystem for the future of maritime operations.

Transas became part of Wärtsilä in May 2018. Transas also offers professional simulation and training as well as ship traffic control solutions.
