Renault Trucks has started series production of the heavy-duty E-Tech T and C at its plant in Bourg-en-Bresse, France.

The 44-tonne models are respectively targeted at regional distribution and urban construction.

The Bourg-en-Bresse plant has undergone a round of investment to prepare for assembly of the new trucks, with plans further drawing on four years of experience manufacturing medium-tonnage trucks at the Blainville-sur-Orne plant.

The E-Tech T and C models are assembled on the same line as diesel equivalents before being transferred to a dedicated area for addition of the Electric Drive Units, transmissions and battery packs. The vehicles are then returned to the regular line for final testing.

The models are available in 4x2 and 6x2 tractor versions, with an extended cab. Wheelbase is 3900 mm. Rigid versions include 4x2, 6x2 and 8x4, with short or extended cabs and a choice of wheelbase (3900 to 6700 mm).

Trucks feature either two or three electric motors. Combined max power is 490 kW (660 hp).

Battery cells and modules are supplied from Samsung SDI and assembled in Ghent, Belgium at a plant owned by the Volvo Group (Renault Trucks is also part of the Volvo Group).

The E-Tech T and C models can be fitted with either four or six li-ion battery packs (390 and 540 kWh). The packs can be recharged by AC up to 43 kW, or 250 kW DC. A full charge using six battery packs delivers an approx. range of 300 km, which increases to 500 km with a one-hour 250 kW fast charge.

The vehicles can be adapted to any bodystyle, supported by three types of power take-off: electric; electromechanical or gearbox.
